One Less Orphan

Blog post written by Jenni Ramsey, Director, His Hands His Feet

Deuterononom 10:18 says that “He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.” Scripture is clear in that God calls His people throughout history to care for the forgotten, the vulnerable and the needy.  It’s His character as a good Father and His Church should reflect the love, mercy and compassion of His heart.  We got to do just that today.  Sweet Katerin (pictured above in green) has lived in orphanages for most of her life due to trauma that she experienced as a child.  But her grandma never forgot her.  She fought for her.  And her grandma’s new home will allow her the safety, protection and blessing of being back in a home with family.  Knowing that there’s one less orphan in El Salvador filled our entire team with indescribable joy today.

His Hands His Feet has been honored to build many, many homes over the past ten years in partnershp with Sus Hijos.  Katerin’s grandma’s home is located on the most beautiful property that we’ve ever built on.  Her grandma’s property sits on a cliff with breathtaking views of mountains filled with lush coffee plants, flowers and tropical terrain.  However, getting down to the house was an unbelievable feat due to the steep incline.  Our team worked incredibly hard to carry concrete, tools, paneling, paint and all of the supplies needed for the home.  My heart soared as I watched our team persist in very difficult conditions.  We had the privilege of getting to know the family throughout the day.  This precious family of six will have a “forever home” tomorrow, thanks to the ongoing work of Sus Hijos and the generous support of our team’s donors. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged, prayed and made financial investments to make Katerin’s dreams come true.  Her family will be forever grateful.  And our team will never forget these memories of serving Jesus in this tiny community nestled in the awe-inspiring hills of La Libertad, El Salvador.
