Dining at the States Diner
Blog post written by Jenni Ramsey, Director, His Hands His Feet
This week our team has enjoyed dining twice at the States Diner. The diner was opened five years ago by the Sus Hijos (His Children) foundation in order to provide employment, training and life skills to teenagers transitioning out of orphanages. The food is delicious, the 50’s style North American decor is nostalgic and the atmosphere, being served by teenagers whose faces are filled with hope, is very unique. Sus Hijos was started ten years ago by Kurt Ackermann, a missionary from Virginia, whose heart was broken while serving on a short-term missions trip to El Salvador with his church. Kurt and his family moved to El Salvador sixteen years ago, and the Lord has given them tremendous favor through their ministry to children living in government run orphanages. This remarkable restaurant has expanded over the past two years to include a bakery and two smaller locations. The States Diner is closed on Sundays so that all employees can attend church and enjoy a day of rest. I always cherish my time at the States Diner, where lives are literally being transformed day by day.
