When God Swings The Door Open
Blog post written by Jenni Ramsey, Director, His Hands His Feet
Last week I was approached by a woman from our church with an extraordinary request. She wanted me to let another woman in the church know that her trip to El Salvador would be paid for anonymously. God had burdened her to pay for Sherry Boyer's trip. I was beyond ecstatic! In all my years of ministry, I have never been able to deliver news quite like this. When I spoke to Sherry on the phone a few days later, she was nearly speechless. By the end of that day, both Sherry and her husband Brian had agreed that God was calling them to go.
Hearing God's voice isn't always easy. There are many times when we question His will as believers. But sometimes God moves in an undeniable way when a door is swung wide open. That's exactly what He did this week and I was overjoyed to be a part of it! I love it when the Body of Christ functions as it should, listening to God's voice, caring for one another, and giving sacrificially. It's quite possible that the Boyers wouldn't have participated on our team if God hadn't spoken in such an obvious way and if my friend hadn't followed His voice to give. I can't wait to see what He does in Brian and Sherry through this experience.
I love what I do. I say it often and this is why... Leading North Americans out of their comfort zones to serve others in the third world is incredibly fulfilling. God's word is clear about missions. He tells us to GO. And I feel His pleasure every time I GO into His harvest field. Jesus had compassion on the crowds when He observed their brokenness and their desperate need for Him. He told his disciples to GO into the harvest to meet those needs. This summer we will have the immense privilege of bringing hope to beautiful people who have been harassed by the challenges of life in a third world country. The harvest is plentiful in our communities, our country and amidst great darkness around our world. How is He leading you to be part of the harvest? While there may not be a door wide open for you today, Jesus told us to call on Him to send out workers. Have you called on Him recently, asking Him to do this? Are you a sender or a worker? "Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, βThe harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers in to his harvest field.β - Matthew 9:35-38
